Mount Holly

Mount Holly is located in Gaston County, bordered by Catawba River, Mountain Island Lake, Interstate 85 and State Route 16. On the northern side of the city lies Lucia-Riverbend, on the south is the city of Belmont. Charlotte and Gastonia, the two anchors of the metro area, are on the east and west sides of Mount Holly.

The local waterways, primarily Catawba River, Dutchmans Creek and Mountain Island Lake, are central to the Mount Holly lifestyle. The city and its residents are dedicated to preserving the health and natural landscape of these waterways so they can continue to be enjoyed, both aesthetically and recreationally. Open spaces in and around Mount Holly complement the lake and rivers and provide ample natural land to explore.

Mount Holly’s economy is supported by industrial activity and textile manufacturing. The city’s strong ties to textiles date back to the 1875 establishment of the Mount Holly Cotton Mill. Still standing today on North Main Street, Mount Holly Cotton Mill is the fourth-oldest mill in Gaston County. It found success early on, and this was a primary factor leading to the growth of the Mount Holly community. Today, textile companies American and Efird and Burlington Industries still operate in the city.

The city enjoys a climate of four seasons: brisk winters, bright springs, hot and humid summers and crisp, colorful autumns. Throughout the year, temperatures may range from lows around 30 degrees to highs in the 90s. The month of March tends to see the most rain, while April sees the least. Besides those two months, rainfall is relatively consistent throughout the rest of the year, with about 3.5-4 inches falling monthly.
